Not USS Voyager

While I’m plucking up the courage to spray the matt coat on Voyager I thought I would have a go at these. The wrapped up one is Kirk. I’ve never done skin tones before so it should be interesting.
I’ve sprayed a small section of the underside of Voyager with matt coat to see if the decals hold up and there are no horrible reactions with the gloss coat.

Decals almost done

Gloss coat on now. It needed several layers. Had a few problems, it seems this varnish needs to go on fairly thick as it dries rough otherwise. I had to sand smooth a few areas before another coat. I think 3 coats in all were needed to get a good enough finish. I’ve got most of the decals on now and I’m waiting for a set to arrive from Federation Models. I messed up on some of the stripes and has to get them off again. There are a few extra escape hatches needed to go with the Paragrafix set.

Ready to Varnish

All cleaned up and washed and ready to varnish tomorrow. I added some fibre optic to the sensor arrays (not sure it’s cannon but I don’t care about that) I think it looks good. I drilled holes in the arrays, cut a bit of .4 mm fibre optic, flared the end with a heat gun and pushed it in the hole then cut it short if it didn’t go all the way in. I added some details I noticed on the back of the warp engines. Thanks to Doug Drexler for putting up some fresh images of the studio model. There are some details around the bridge section. Anyway have a look at the pics and I hope they’re of some use to other modellers.
